Carmageddon Block Party Featured on Local and International Media

Original publish date: July 20, 2011

Who says a little metropolitan meltdown can’t be fun?

Last weekend, Showbiz Store & Cafe made good on its mission to host the biggest ‘Carmegeddon Block Party’ in the entire land of Los Angeles.  While the roads ended up looking more like a set from Omega Man than the gleaming tube of bumper-to-bumper metal prognosticated, the store had heavier foot traffic than the Odessa steps scene from Battleship Potemkin.

The cafe was putting smiles on faces – not just with paint but also coffee, lattes and smoothies – all weekend long, while live DJs Rob Von Boogie (Saturday) & Richie Rich (Sunday) kept the good times rolling. The raffle draw at 3pm each day was a fan favorite, bringing out the crowds for the grand prizes of a 20″ iMac computer and the ‘405 Prix Fixe Dinner for Two’ at WEST at the Angeleno Hotel.

The unique nature of the event got Showbiz Store & Cafe featured on KNBC Channel 4, The Weather Network (national!), RTL (TV in Germany!), KPCC 89.3 FM and Canal 22. Special thanks to our prize donators Angeleno Hotel and the New Media Film Festival. Also, another special thanks to Zeus Thomas from Cartel Arts, our live artist for the weekend.

Most of all, thanks to everyone who came out to party with us

this weekend – we had a blast! Watch for events like this in the future, particularly as they coincide with quasi-apocalyptic happenings about town.
