Affordable Care ActThe Basic Facts
Determining Employee Classification
- Full-time employees: Those who average at least 30 hours/week (130 hours/month).
- Part-time employees: Those who average less than 30 hours/week (130/month).
- Seasonal employees: Those in positions for which the “customary annual employment” is six months or less (i.e. retail, agriculture, hospitality).
- Variable hour employees: Those whose weekly hours cannot be determined at start of employment.
**Note: Most production companies will have either full-time employees, part-time employees, short-term or variable hour employees. Seasonal employee category is still a grey area as it applies to the entertainment industry.
